The Origin Story

Anshul Rai and Varun Rathi were inspired to start Happay to simplify financial processes and expense management for businesses. Initially, Happay was launched as a consumer-based product aimed at simplifying peer-to-peer payments. However, the founders quickly identified a more significant opportunity in the B2B space, focusing on automating and streamlining expense management for companies. This pivot was driven by their realization of the inefficiencies and challenges businesses face in managing expenses, which they believed could be addressed through technology and innovation.

When Happay was first launched in 2012 by Anshul Rai and Varun Rathi, the initial vision was to create a consumer-based product to simplify peer-to-peer payments. This vision was focused on making financial transactions easier and more accessible for individual users. However, over time, the founders identified a more significant opportunity in the B2B space and pivoted towards providing solutions for expense management and financial processes for businesses.

In addition to Happay’s Mobile App, their full T&E suite offers audit and approval functions, to enable companies to keep the entire expense workflow in one place. Happay’s SmartAudit automatically audits and flags every violation in every expense report. Happay’s ApprovNow automatically sends real-time alerts & notifications throughout the approval process, to all parties involved – employees, approvers, and finance.

Happay customers have the ability to leverage all expense data to execute deep analytics and extract insights that inform the business. With Happay’s analytics suite, customers can answer the following questions: Who are the top spenders? Who are the top policy violators?
